The brand new Duffy’s SuperValu premises is comprised of 20,000 square feet and is the most modern SuperValu in Ireland.  The supermarket also features an underground car part and 270 car parking spaces.  Apart from the supermarket, there are also 12 units to let beside the new premises.

The store, which has 100 staff, now boasts a huge range of fresh food, as well as an off licence and speciality food from all corners of the world.  Bishop Thomas Flynn performed the official opening.

The first Duffy’s store in Ballaghaderreen was opened by Bridie Duffy in the late 1960s and it was fitting that it was her daughter Mary who opened the new store on Friday last.

Asked about the secret of success in terms of the business, owner John Duffy, a local man who has never worked anywhere other than Ballaghaderreen, said “Hard work and long hours.  We are always open 364 days per year and we open until 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays.  We are open 8am to 8pm other weekdays and 8am to 6pm on Sundays”.
