Applications for the necessary funding were submitted to local and national agencies but the securing of substantial grant aid from Enterprise Ireland was essential if the project were to proceed. Ballaghaderreen & Districts Development has now been informed by Enterprise Ireland that the project has been approved for a capital grant of €250,000 as well as a substantial management grant, under the Community Enterprise Centre Programme 2002. This is one of the largest capital grants made available to any such project anywhere in the country and it reflects the quality of the project and the submissions made in respect of it. Ballaghaderreen & Districts Development wishes to acknowledge the input of Ms. Ann Flynn, Chief Executive, Roscommon Enterprise Board, Mr. Victor Andrews of Enterprise Ireland and Mr. James Donlon of Westbic, Roscommon, in putting together and supporting the grant application.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Paddy McGarry, M.C.C., Chairman of Ballaghaderreen & Districts Development Ltd said that he wished to acknowledge the role played by local Engineers Mary O'Hara & Co. Ltd., in preparing the plans and specifications for the project and securing planning permission. He also wished to thank Ballaghaderreen Fairs and Markets Co. for their co-operation in relation to the provision of a site. He stated that this project has been a top priority for Ballaghaderreen & Districts Development over the last couple of years.

The construction of an Enterprise Park will provide work space for small and medium sized enterprises in the area, at reasonable cost. It will provide impetus to start up new businesses and should also attract external investment into the area. Also, the project will reinvigorate an area of the town that has been crying out for development. Mr. McGarry observed that employment creation in Ballaghaderreen is a central objective of the local development

Enterprise Park Update - 8th February 2005

The appointment will be made in parallel with the completion of the Enterprise Park.
