| The
Present soccer club was founded in 1995. It was set up to cater mainly
for the youth of the town and surrounding area. It has grown substantially
since then and last season entered twelve underage teams (boys and girls)
and an adult mens and ladies team in League competition.
There has been many League successes at underage level over the years but the main highlights for the club have been the participation of two girls sides in the All Ireland Cup Finals. Last seasons, (2000) U16 side lost narrowly 1-0 in the final and in the previous year the U14 side lost to a very strong Dublin team Lourdes Celtic. Two boys teams have reached Connacht Cup Finals over the years as well. The club plays their home matches in a field out the Convent Road from the town which is leased from a local man. It is hoped that the club's new home will be at the Community Park (old sportsfield) where it has been developed |
